Enrolment & Transition

During first term there is a gradual easing into school routine for preps to help them build up to attending for the full week.

In Victoria your child needs to have turned 5 on or before the 30th April before he/she can legally start school. Parents can legally defer enrolment for their child until the child is six years old.

When Enrolling your child you will need to bring the following:

  • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate)
  • Immunisation Certificate from The Australian Childhood Immunisation Register

For more information click here to go to the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register website.

Medical & Personal Details

It is very important for the school to have accurate and up to date information on your child’s medical and personal details including telephone contact numbers.

When a child is enrolled an enrolment information form is completed. Details need to be kept accurate so please notify the school of changes. Correct details may be critical in the event of an emergency.

For children who are Asthma sufferers parents are required to complete an Action Plan for Anaphylaxis. You can download a copy here.

Children who are ill should be kept home but your child may return to school whilst still taking medication. Before any staff member can administer any type of medication to a child a Medication Authority Form must be completed by parents and returned to the school.

Prep Transition & Attendance

During first term there is a gradual easing into school routine where during the month of February the Preps do not attend school on Wednesdays. This day is classified as a rest day to help them build up their stamina to attending school for the full week.

Bringing Lunch to School
We encourage all parents to provide their child with healthy food including snacks and lunch. Soft drinks are not permitted and lollies are discouraged. Lunch is eaten prior to going out to play and is supervised by the classroom teacher. Please ensure that your child’s lunch box, drink bottle etc are labelled with their name.

Hot Lunch Day
Every Monday the children have the option of ordering a hot lunch. A hot lunch menu is sent home at the start of the year and available from the office. If you wish to order a hot lunch item, put your child's name and what they want on the front of an envelope, and include the correct money. These envelopes are collected Monday morning at 9am.

Brain Food
We encourage healthy eating in children. Fizzy drinks are not permitted and lollies are discouraged. At 10am every day all children have a fruit break. We encourage you to send fruit with your child each day.

Bus Travel
Alberton Primary School is serviced by three school buses. The arrangements for your child are recorded with the bus coordinating school when you register for bus travel. If, for some reason, you wish to change this procedure then please let us know in writing, by phone or by informing the office staff in person.

At 3.30pm each day, children travelling on buses assemble in their groups at the bus area. Teachers supervise and help them to get on the correct bus. Behaviour on the buses is expected to be of the highest standard.
